At FSP we value our local community and understand its importance to our business. It has particular relevance to us because a high percentage of our workforce lives within our local community. For a number of years we have supported our local school The Lord Silkin, providing work placements and more recently through our involvement in a mentoring programme. Some of these young people have become employees at FSP. Others having gained a valuable insight from their placements have gone on to gain employment elsewhere in our community. Over 30 percent of our existing workforce began their working careers at FSP as trainees, many of which have progressed and now hold key roles within our organisation.
Along with The Lord Silkin School we have a shared interest in raising the aspirations of all young people within our local community. When The Lord Silkin School were recently granted Trust Status FSP were very keen to become a Trust Partner. This partnership enables us to work in collaboration building a culture of creativity, innovation and expertise that brings education and business closer together, enhancing the relevance of learning. Being involved as a Trust Partner allows us to engage with young people who may become employees in the future. These young people will play a vital role in supporting the local economy in the future, it is therefore essential that they are given the skills, knowledge and opportunities required to succeed in a modern business.
“The Lord Silkin School is very proud of the proactive relationship it has with FSP. The company is a positive influence within the community and certainly being a Trust Partner of our school we have found them to actively engage with us on all levels. Being part of our Governing Body has given the company an insider’s view of what is needed to make a school and its students successful. The support they give our students through the mentoring programme is an extremely positive one and one where the students feel comfortable to talk to them about what is required to enter the world of work”.
